2015 HAITI SUMMER TRIP

We magnify the name of our Lord who blessed our trip to Haiti this year.  Once again, this past summer we were fortunate to visit the people we are privileged to serve in Haiti and to assess the work the Lord has entrusted to us. Here is a brief summary of what happened.

DOXA CREDIT – Our dynamic ladies of the Microcredit Program, under the leadership of Sister Rose, organized a great party as an inaugural celebration of the program and to give thanks to the Lord for all its benefits and blessings they are now enjoying.  We prayed, sang, watched the Jesus Film, and ate a nice Haitian meal.  Everybody was moved by the love we experienced that day.  Two people gave their heart to the Lord at the end of the meeting.  We have also added 10 new participants to the program, bringing the total number of participants to 47.

DOXA AGRICULTURE - We had a wonderful and exciting working meeting in Lascahobas with leaders of several organizations of small farmers. We discussed ongoing activities included in our seed assistance program (SAP) initiated for the first time this past spring to assist hundreds of  small farmers in the Plateau Central Region who had difficulties finding seeds to plant for the 2015 growing season. We provided seed of dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and peanut (Arachis hypogaea). Although a drought this past spring has seriously compromised their crop production this year, the participants were very grateful for the seed assistance and their collaboration with Doxa.  At the end of this fruitful meeting we visited a SAP peanut field in Juampa.  We intend to keep and improve this program as we move forward.

We visited other project sites where we planted several seedlings and saplings a few years ago. We were encouraged by the progress we witnessed. They are growing strong and before long people in the community will begin to enjoy the direct benefits of this effort. The reforestation program will also continue, and there is room for you to join hands with us.

DOXA EDUCATION – We did not make our usual trip to San Ped to see the school and the building site, as the children were already on vacation.  However, the school principal came and met with us in Lascahobas.  We discussed the past and upcoming school year, the 2015-2016 budget, and our plan and vision for the school.  We also shared with him our decision to move the school at some point during the 2015-2016 year from the church to our new building, add three more classes over the next three years to keep up with the recent changes of the national school system in Haiti, and adjust the teachers’ salaries to cope with the rampant inflation in Haiti.  Early this fall, we will resume construction to prepare the building for the roof erection and other miscellaneous work to facilitate the transfer of the students.  After this milestone, we will continue to make further improvements until all construction is complete.  As our Lord provides and our friends continue to support us, we remain confident we will be able to raise enough funding to complete the building construction.
